October 2008 Update

Updated October 7th, 2008

Our Moms

We are helping more moms then we ever have at one time! Although we are budgeted for only 8 we feel we have to find a way to make it work with our new mom Lisa. We also have 2 moms on a waiting list. Although we would love to be able to help everyone that comes to us from the start, we need to make sure we have reliable funds to do so. Please remember your donations no matter the size make a huge difference in our ability to take care of our moms.

Lisa is just 30 years old. She is the new mom we will be taking this month. She has been on the waiting list since August 29th because she is very sick we felt we could no longer hold her off. She is terminal and has already made arrangements for her 9-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son. We will be going out this week to get a full assessment of her needs.

Rita is still receiving chemo every Saturday. We delivered meals to her and got to meet her kids who are very helpful. She has two tumors and is not sure how long her treatment plan will go on for. This is very difficult for her because she cannot work. Please if you need your house cleaned, think of Rita. You can email Andy if you are interested.

Nicole has 5 more weeks of radiation pending her white blood count and is eager like most of our moms to be done! She has good family support with her 3-year-old daughter. She is just shocked that there is an organization out there to help her with her monthly bills.

Barb is having a tough time; her aggressive radiation wipes her out. She is going to California for a surgery on the 17th. We will be looking for volunteers to deliver hot meals nightly for 3 to 4 days following her operation. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers that her cancer stops spreading.

Suzanne has started a new form of chemo. The last one she was on was landing her back in the hospital for dehydration quite a bit. She has had someone partner with her at the salon and her daughter has really stepped up to keep things running around there. She also was kind enough to help us with our New Channel 3 segment. Please remember to visit her Salon Ignite on Miller & Indian School in Scottsdale to help support her business.

Rosa has been feeling under the weather throughout the month. She has had 3 scans to monitor the progression of her cancer. Even though the doctors are surprised that the cancer has not spread at a quicker rate, she still has spots on her lungs and throughout her body. She is staying busy working part time in the mornings and taking care of her four kids. She continues to be an inspiration to all of us at Singleton Moms.

Demetria is finishing up with Chemo in November and then starting radiation treatments every day for 7 weeks. Her work is going to provide her with the time off but she will not be able to make up her hours and is worried about the added stress. On a good note, Singleton Moms has found free orthodontic treatment for her. Demetria’s story was featured in the National Ortho Tribune the month of September and we are hoping more orthodontists will come forward and help our moms.

Carla is still having a hard time digesting her cancer coming back. She has many unanswered questions just like most of our moms. She is undergoing Chemo again and re-losing her hair. Her live in daughter is having a baby the end of this month and Carla is trying to stay positive through all of these changes.

Netis has had some major changes this past month. We helped her move into a smaller house that she could better afford. We had a wonderful group of volunteers and were reminded again how cool it is to make a difference in our mom’s lives. She has been under the weather off and on this past month and is so ready for her treatments to be over in December.
