Get Involved with Michelle's Circle

Singleton Moms is continuously seeking caring volunteers to become part of Michelle’s Circle.  By donating their time, talents and hearts, our volunteers can make a difference in the lives of single parents diagnosed with cancer in the Greater Phoenix area.  Areas of service include prepared meals, housecleaning, transportation, counseling and financial assistance. The organization also looks for enthusiastic committee members who enjoy helping with event planning, fundraising, and administrative duties.

To become a Michelle’s Circle volunteer please complete our Volunteer Form. When volunteer opportunities become available, you will be notified via email. You can register for the opportunity by responding to the initial email; once all RSVPs are received, further details will be made available to those who can help.

We can’t wait to meet you!

Volunteers Needed Now

Volunteer Manager of Michelle’s Kitchen Program (2 positions available)

Ideally this volunteer position would consist of 4 volunteers that rotated the position responsibilities on a monthly basis. These volunteers would work with the Singleton Moms Office Administrator to ensure that meal orders are made by the order deadline. Then attend the scheduled Michelle’s Kitchen event for the month. At the event you would be responsible for informing the volunteers about Singleton Moms, answering questions and working alongside Kitchen staff to ensure the event runs smoothly. At the end of the event you would be responsible for bringing the meals back to the Singleton Moms office for storage. The time commitment for this position is 5 hours during your assigned month.

*Of these 4 volunteers a Lead will need to be determined. This Lead would be responsible for receiving Michelle’s Kitchen hosting requests and scheduling the event for these groups. This position will require an additional 1-2 hours of time each month.

Please email Jody Farley-Berens at jody@singletonmoms.org if you are interested in this volunteer position.

Volunteer Manager of Bare Necessities Program (4 positions available)

Ideally this volunteer position would consist of 4 volunteers that rotated the position responsibilities, in teams of two, on a monthly basis. These volunteers would be responsible for creating a contact list of Bare Necessities participants. You would update the Bare Necessities list on a monthly basis and send the approved list to participants. Additionally, your responsibilities would include seeking out new organizations and groups who would like to become new participants of the Bare Necessities Drive.

On the third Saturday of each month the Bare Necessities Drive is held at the Singleton Moms office. Donations are accepted from 10am- Noon. Then Singleton Parents and Care Coordinators come by the office from Noon-2pm to pick up needed house hold item. Each team is responsible for being at the office from 9:30am-3pm. During this time you would sort donations by item as they come in, then help our Singleton Parent or Care Coordinator select items and pack them for our parents. At the end of the day, all leftover items will need to be put away and organized in the Singleton Moms store room. The time commitment for this position is 10 hours during your assigned month.

Please email Jody Farley-Berens at jody@singletonmoms.org if you are interested in this volunteer position.

Volunteer Opportunities

Several times a month we provide our Moms and Dads with nutritious, well-balanced pre-prepared meals for the family. Meals are purchased from a professional meal service and prepared by volunteers at our regular Michelle’s Kitchen Meal Parties, typically held once a month. Check out the Events Calendar for dates and details.  These are great events where a group of volunteers get together to help prepare the meals, guaranteeing health standards, high quality, and having a little fun!  Meals are prepared with the focus on nutrition and the needs of the parent and their children.

Camille Williamson - Care Coordinator

Volunteer Dee with Mom Amy and other volunteersMom Colleen’s volunteer Care Coordinator, Camille Williamson, says:

It’s extremely rewarding to be a volunteer Care Coordinator, because I feel like I’m giving back and doing something for somebody who didn’t ask to have cancer, who didn’t choose to be a single parent, who didn’t want to find themselves in this situation.

I also feel very connected to be helping a mom, when I am also a mom, as I know what it’s like to want to provide everything so well for your family, regardless of your own personal issues or challenges.

Colleen is an easy person to help because she’s so appreciative and never takes me or Singleton Moms for granted. I love Colleen for her positive attitude and the way that she helps to keep herself strong. Even when she is in a lot of pain or not feeling well, she still manages to keep her spirits up with her great attitude.

When you have a cancer diagnosis, it changes your entire life in an instant, and sometimes you don’t take the time to try and enjoy the “regular” fun things that you enjoyed before your diagnosis. I try really hard to focus the attention away from the cancer and more on the “girlfriend” aspect of our relationship.

I came into Colleen’s life because of the cancer, but I have stayed there because of the friendship. I wish I could do more for her. We have really bonded to the point that her family has been to my house, we go out to dinner regularly, and so forth. I feel like something really good, has come out of something really bad, because of our great relationship and Singleton Moms.
