Singleton™ Moms supports single parents fighting any form of cancer. Generally those in need of our services are from low-income households, or are struggling financially as they are unable to work due to their treatment. What's more, making an already traumatic situation worse, about 75% of the Singleton™ Moms we’ve helped over the years have not received any Child Support. Consequently the majority of those seeking our support are looking for financial assistance, which makes Michelle’s Pockets one of our most valued programs.
Your donation is so valuable to us because we have only just scratched the surface of the demand for our services here in the Phoenix area.
The following statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau and The American Cancer Society shed some light on our challenge.
- In 2006, the year Singleton™ Moms was started, there were 12.9 million one-parent families in the US.
- In 2008 40% of babies born in the U.S. were born to un-wed mothers.
- The American Cancer Society estimates that about 1.5 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the U.S in 2010.
These staggering numbers lead us to believe that there must be at least 5,000 to 10,000 single parents with cancer in the Phoenix Metropolitan area alone.
Due to our limited resources, Singleton™ Moms currently has a waiting list of families; as time is of the essence with cancer treatment patients, we must gain community support to build our services and widen our net as quickly as possible, increasing the number of families we can help.
Through the generous donations of caring community members like you, Singleton™ Moms hopes to continue easing the burdens of these courageous men and women during a most difficult time in their lives.
